I'm pleased to say 2010 has started well, I'm settled in a permanent job and recently became engaged to my partner of 7 years. I've also finished my first professional website for a family member and have had a few offers of more work. I'm in a happy place at the moment and hopefully that continues.

I would just like to say a big thank you to Skills Train for allowing me to extend my course! It's a huge lifeline and has ensured my work so far has not been for nothing for which I am extremely grateful. Thanks again!

I chose do this course to retrain and change my career. In July 2009 with the knowledge of IT I possess now and the qualification I am working towards I was able to secure a new job with a major rugby League. Although my work load has increased I have been able to continuing studying and achieving excellent results in all TMA's.

This month I have just been promoted to Development Manager and this is thanks to the skills I have learnt and continue learning on this course.

I was born with a major disability to both feet, much of the disability being corrected over the first 20 years of my life. This has posed a change to me in the years of schooling and recreation. I have lived to date as normal life as possible meeting all challenges that have been thrown my way, overcoming my disability and often doing much more that my doctors would want. I put off having an operation for many years, knowing that, the risks of being left in wheelchair was great. I finally plucked up the courage, having found the right partner in life, to take the plunge, having now being informed that I would have to accept the possibility that the operation could fail and result in the chance of the need for an amputation; which I would not know if it was the case for up to 9 months after the operation. As the operation was only 6 weeks ago, I still have to wait to see if it will be successful. I have a driving ambition to be positive, so I can achieve a life-times dream and create a fund to enable others that less fortunate than me. My hope an aspirations are that the knowledge and skills that I will gain from this course will enable me to complete the project of my family educational boardgame 'Highlife' and transform it into a truly exciting interactive computer/Internet project. I am determined with your help and support to complete this course, I am also determined to succeed to show to others it can be done, and that no one can stop me.

I have been a service engineer for six years now, but the knowledge I have gained from my course with SkillsTrain has helped me to build an Intranet between the five local computers, which used to transfer data by CD's and flash drives, and create stylish advertising emails and prints to boost sales and knowledge of the companys' existence. The company now, with a VPN to external suppliers and sister companies, benefits from a much more efficient and accurate data exchange. Without this knowledge we would still be walking miles with memory sticks and struggling to pass on valuable information to customers.

With a background of retail and an interest in web design and technologies, I enrolled into the E-Commerce course back in January 2008. Two years on and I found a job in a local IT company having expressed interest in the technology. Since then, I have passed my CIW foundations exam and my role has changed (and my salary!) from a predominately sales and marketing role to web marketing management and web design. I now get involved with Wordpress development, writing my own HTML/CSS and Javascript from scratch and even inputting design ideas to the ASP.NET development team!

Support calls originally were a bit daunting at first, but with the studies I did for my CIW Foundations exam I am now able to assist our clients with user issues, including network connectivity and general Windows-based user issues. Passing the exam gave me the confidence to move forward and although there is more to achieve, it gave me the lift that I needed to succeed.

Probably like most other students, I have a very busy schedule in terms of work and other commitments. In my case work and a lot of sports coaching and part of the reason I took this course was to change my career to have a bit more time in my hands to do normal things. I have just submitted my tutor marked assignment 05 which in the time scale since I started I have managed to squeeze in study time. I didn't have all the confidence with this course to start with because I was more worried about not exceeding to my expectation. I failed my second TMA but it didn't knock me back. It made me study a bit harder even if it meant staying up till 1-2 am in the morning. I am now enjoying studying again which I didn't think I would. Bring on TMA06...

I've managed to achieve a website only at half way through the course. With the 5 years of now designing websites self-trained. I've managed to use those skills and techniques in order to successfully design websites (www.allstarclan.co.uk) and (www.aharrisandson.co.uk). For example I taught myself how to improve dramatically on flash from just learning about 'Motion Tweening'. With just that little knowledge I self-taught myself on how to use a Flash software called 'Swishmax' in order to design websites in flash. I also taught myself how to create graphics with Macromedia Fireworks MX - for example the allstarclan.co.uk's logo and banner was designed just using techniques I self-taught myself throughout the years.

With the basic qualification of the Diploma in web design I successfully completed 4 years ago I then Managed to use those very basic skills from the diploma qualification and what I'm learning now, and just improvised from there to achieve the success of this website. So far the allstarclan.co.uk website has gained 164 unique visitors and 31746 hits.

http://allstarclan.co.uk/stats/awstats.pl

In which I am very proud of, considering the website has only been live for a month or so now. Chosen to design a website based on gaming on Xbox 360 because I'm a passionate about gaming on consoles for years now and thought it would be better to design a website based on something I've got a big interest on. My further reasons for why this site was designed for the Allstar clan is so I can improve on my confidence in web design and use that website as a practical learning base so I can use the skills I've learnt throughout the this course to then implement them on the Allstar clan's website.

I managed to develop and create allstarclan.co.uk website throughout the days and months whilst managing to complete the TMA's. With now at Section 3 Part A my skills can only advance from there to be able to help even further to improve my chances of a successful career in the future.

And I do have problems at home that puts pressure on myself to find that motivation to successfully complete this course. As I'm sure millions of students on this course come across many difficulties and are under a lot of pressure also when studying at home, it comes with trying to be a success. I put in many hard working hours in building the www.allstarclan.co.uk / www.aharrisandson.co.uk websites.

I have managed to create a basic online calculator using JavaScript. This May be achieved with basic knowledge of JavaScript but it is to date the most impressive thing I have done in relation to the course. I have been a student for a long time now but have not completed many TMA to date.

However, the practical elements of learning JavaScript as really put the bit between my teeth to knuckle down and get more work completed.

I have now settled in my new job as a Graphic Designer at a local Studio and now hope to press on with the web side of things with help from the Skillstrain.

I am so pleased that I passed my Perl TMA10 assignment and moved on to the next part of the course. At one point I felt I would never be able to do it, but I persisted. It was so satisfying when I finally ran my mini programme and it showed the expected results.

I have managed to increase dramatically the number of TMAs submitted within the month of July with an average turnaround of 4 days per assignment. I have also built a website from the knowledge I have gained for my brother's company:
http://www.highlandcareagency.co.uk

Having almost completed the CIW course I wanted to continue to learn and improve my prospects of further employment. I applied and have got into University to do a Ba. My marks for TMA`s and description of study material as proof of my ability to apply myself to my studies impressed at interview and University have accepted me onto the fast-track degree course that lasts 2 years instead of 3. Am so pleased and am really looking forward to the future!

I have just recovered from major surgery, which could have required an amputation of the left foot. So far all is going well. I have just started working as Kleeneze Distributor with my wife. This is all so good for my recovery as it means have to do a lot of walking. Have made contact with several people with a view to transform my board game that was created as an educational and fun product to be developed as an interactive internet based product. I find the course very hard work but very worthwhile and will find the energy to persist.

I thought this curse will only be about building websites, but to my surprise it is more than that and the more I study, the more I learn about new stuff that I did not know will come by. These guys are the best tutors money can buy.

I have been on the course now since 27/08/2010 and have submitted 3 TMA's and I have just got 100% on my 3rd TMA which I am so pleased with. It has inspired me to get on with my next assignment.

I think the course is brilliant, I feel I have learnt so much in a very short period of time and the way it is set out has enabled me to retain the information as I proceed through the workbook.

Since starting the CIW Course with Skills Train I have increased my web design work for people.

I ran a local Community Radio station in my areas website for 6 years and since then have done websites for local churches in my area like http://www.maitlanduk.com and others.

I have also done websites for local mobile discos http://www.re-petediscos.co.uk and even have done a website for local driving school, and a holiday website for a client's villa.

I know I would have not done this much work if I had not been doing my CIW course with skills train and I hope to be doing even more work in the new year!

It's not all been a walk in the park and there are times when I have found it hard and could not have got through without the help from my tutors at skills train.

So I would like to say thank you very much!

My job of work is a Quality Assurance Auditor for automated equipment used in producing medicine. I took this CIW course to learn about web page creation however the course looks at so much of the computing and networking world and I have learned so much that it has given me the confidence to now integrate the IT department as part of my audits and it the past where I had to accept that the method they were using to store records was correct I can now examine the installation records with much more detail.

So combines with my knowledge of manufacturing Automation and drug regulations I can now add my ever increasing knowledge of networking and software protocols.
