How studying with SkillsTrain is going to make this Christmas even better than the last.
I have always had an interest in computers, so when I received a leaflet through my door about SkillsTrain I thought I would enquire about the courses available. I have always been the sort of person that lacks confidence. I then started to think who am I fooling I'm a 42 year old mother of 3, who is likely to want to employ me at my age so again my lack of confidence kicked in. I received a quick response from SkillsTrain and they arranged for a gentleman to come round to my home for a chat to discuss what my options were and what would be suitable for me to study. A gentleman came round and we discussed what was available he gave me a few tests to do and it was decided that I would take the following courses: CompTIA A+, CompTIA N+, and MCSE and I thought to start with maybe I was taking on more than I could handle, I was unemployed at the time of starting my course and I knew I at least had to try so when I first started my course I was very surprised at how well I was getting on with it. When I was about a month into my studying I applied for a job in a shoe shop as a sales assistant just working 20 hours a week and was over the moon when I received a phone call to say I was successful and could start work the following week. Studying with SkillsTrain had given me the confidence that I had lacked for so many years. I had been working at the shoe shop for about 6 months and the Manager was sacked for personal reasons and I thought oh well back to being unemployed again but to my surprise I was offered the position of Manager I couldn't believe it, who would of thought it me a Manager, I had been unemployed and a single mum for so many years I just knew it had to be because of SkillsTrain I felt more sure of myself and I knew then that I could achieve anything if I wanted too. I am now nearly at the end of my CompTIA A+ course and doing very well. I have just 2 more TMA's to go I have confidence now that I never thought possible I have made a better Christmas and future for myself and my family all because of the first visit from SkillsTrain, somebody at the beginning had confidence it me which helped me to gain confidence in myself. Thanks SkillsTrain for changing my life for the better.

This year of studying with skills train has been unbelievable, I could never imagined that when I enrolled last year that my life would change in more ways than I imagined.
When I enrolled last year I explained my situation with the skillstrain advisor. I was undergoing the final stages of my treatment for a brain tumour, and had undergone surgery, radiotherapy and six months of chemotherapy. I wanted something to take my mind off of my situation, and give me some goals for the coming year, and a skillstrain course seemed an ideal way to progress.
For the last year |I have been managing my study with my job (although only part time as I still get very fatigued), and I admit it has been a struggle juggling work, with hospital visits and studying, and in August this year I was taken back into hospital after a relapse.
Throughout this however my concentration on my study has I feel got me through some of these dark times, and waiting for my latest TMA result gave me something to aim for.
My Progress I admit May not be as fast as some other students, because of my situation, however I am soldiering on and look forward to every new part of my course.
My Latest Scans show I'm am in remission and I have every intention of making up for lost time, So Thank you once again Skills Train and here's to 2009!.
Yours faithfully
-Martin
Hi, and since I started doing this Course it has helped encourage me to build a pc based touch-screen jukebox. My partner is a full time sole carer for a young teenager mentally handicapped child with autistic tendencies, he's a great kid and loves music, but he has no respect for cd's lol he knows how to use them he just cant keep them from getting scratched, ;0) a cd does not last long in this house, hence the need for mp3 jukebox.
I guess your thinking this has nothing to do with promotions, pay rises and the likes, But without this course giving me some basic know how on Amps, Volts, compatability of Software/Hardware and Trouble shooting, I think I would still be checking out Ebay wondering if that part would work do this part fit for what I need.
So as I have now made the jukebox with a 17" Elo Touchscreen, Boxeasy for the Software, Jamie-lee Tried it out yesterday. and he smiled so much and ran round the house dancing the way he does laughing and screaming with excitement. Knowing that he will be getting this for Christmas is enough for me.
All it needs is for me to check my woodwork skills to make a frame for it to fit in to lol and I have to two left hands when it comes to that. nothing that a bit of glue and plenty of paint won't cover ;0)
Merry Christmas, Leigh Badger

Since finishing my A+ syllabus I've been able to actually fix an old PC and upgrade it in time ready for Christmas so my children are able to learn IT at home. By following what I learned, I used the ASID troubleshooting method to find that I had a damaged processor and damaged cable to my hard drive. Also I found how to ensure my network runs efficiently and have seen a vast improvement in speed since using the skills I learnt.

I have started applying my new found knowledge at work, and they have made me a trainee technician and will be made to full technician on completion of my MCSE. I have a new found motivation for studying.
Thank you Skills Train

I have completed all TMA's for 70-270 Part A with outstanding results. I recently applied for a 2nd line technical support specialist role that became available in my current workplace. During the interview I mentioned how I was studying for my MCSE with Skills Train alongside my existing skills. Days later I was pleased to hear that I had been accepted for the job role which I will be starting on the 26th January 2009.

I have started to gain a knowledgeable amount of computers form this course now that much that people have been asking me to fix there computers i.e for example my brother went on line at a burger king in our home town from which he was downloading games with out virus protection and spyware the result was that his computer was infected with 22 trojan viruses which he had not even realised so I told him to bring the computer to me and I had erase his c: drive to kill all of them cause they wouldn't come off the computer it wouldn't even load up properly so I had to put it in safe mode and format the hard drive I now have put 2 different virus software programmes and a anti spyware one which are all freeware of www.downloads.com

I am a serving solder, I have to work sometimes 24 hours a day. In general speaking, I do not have time to study the course materials. But I do not let it go. What I do is, I always carry a small notebook on me and take it out and just lay it in front of my eyes looking it. When I go to exercise, I prepare enough note for the period of the training exercise. When we have a break, other just chill out but I find a tree and sit under the tree next to the trunk and take out my note.
Sometimes, my friends make joke of me being a bookworm. I just ignore them. When I come back to home form training exercise, I submit the assignment.

Honestly, I must confess that I have achieved a lot in the last 3 months than ever. Although I had a lot of discouragement and challenges from my present family condition and TMA18, but I thank God everything is in control. Firstly, Each time I receive my course material I feel am not getting enough out of it. I went on holiday to USA last year December, on arrival, I went for a check up at the hospital because I was pregnant only for me to be ask not to leave the hospital because my life and that of my baby was in danger. On 8th Jan 08 I had my baby through Exit Procedure and stayed in the hospital for 6six month before I was discharged. Initially opening my book seems am stupid looking at my babies health situation. all through my stay in the USA I struggled with two course material until we came back to UK where I live. Moreover, remembering I have a target I kicked off when we came back, On my coming back to UK my system had a serious problem of which I had to go to a friend house before submitting my TMA. Lucky me I repaired it myself after sending an enquiry to tutor team. What a lucky Girl. Toady I can assure you that the number of hour I study has increased, same with what I learn from it, in that the topic treated before TMA18 was really had on me, at a stage I feel like quitting the course because m mind told me even if I ask my Tutor a question how am I sure they will understand it talk more answering me, but I bet you after a lot of thought in my mind I sent out my questions on TMA18, to my greatest surprise, it was answered by Vincent in a way that I benefited not only on that topic but also for my future use. Also the number of my TMA that I submit has also increase. With all these and many more, I believe my fees are not in vain.

I have applied many, many aspects of what I am learning into my work environment. Recently, I adjusted the setup of our 4 WINS servers over 3 different physical locations. Based on my studies, I have now streamlined something that I was previously unaware needed adjustment. This has made my network much more efficient and my boss happy. Nice.
-Michael
At the moment I am working under pressure, but I am start trying study as much as possible! Hopefully, that will continue for long time! :-)

After trying for a while to kick-start a career in the IT industry and having no luck due to "lack of commercial experience" I decided to approach a small IT company and ask if there was a possibility of a voluntary position to gain experience.
The offer was accepted and 2 days a week I would be working for a company who specialise in pro open-source business solutions (Linux servers, Asterisk VoIP) and support all associated systems (Windows, Mac, Linux, Hardware and Software).
After 2 weeks (4 days) I was offered a full-time paid position with the company and have accepted the position.
This has allowed me to put the skills I have learnt so far into practice as well as learn new skills and gain knowledge which is helping me with my studies.
