In April 2006 I was diagnosed with lung cancer after several months of doctor and hospital visits complaining of back pain.Needless to say I was devastated especially as I had been complaining about mt back. After yet more scans and x-rays they found some abnormality on my spine. They got me into hospital in late May of that year where they removed my left lung (for the tumor there) and did a biopsy on my spine. It transpired that the cancer had spread to my spine (hence the back pain) but unfortunately they can't operate for fear of leaving me paralised. This was just totally bewildering and obviously very worrying,I just wanted to crawl away into a corner and give up.
This is when I chanced upon an advert for Skillstrain and thought "what the heck" I'll have a look at it.I have always been active all my life and when the doctors told me I would not be able to continue in my employment (refrigeration) I thought I could turn my attention to other things.Hence I enrolled with Skillstrain, finding it extremely hard to begin with. After all at 60+ it's been a long time since my school learning days.
With help from my wife (especially) and a few close friends I stuck at it not wanting to let them down, much less myself.I had very little knowledge about computers and even less on how they work.As I say it was tough going at first but it is all falling into place now,I am understanding more and more each day. With a lot of dedication I have amazed myself with the marks I have been achieving with 100% on a regular basis.
It has been a great strain for myself and family over the last couple of years but with the help of this course I feel I can achieve almost anything.I hadn't really thought about taking the exam at the end of the course, but that is now a real possibility. If other students are finding it hard work,I hope they read this and take heart.Remember-"NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE" some things just take a little longer.Thankyou Skillstrain for giving me a second chance.

Just that I have completed almost 11 perl assignments in the last month!... (the 11th will be submitted this evening)

The topics have been pretty hardcore, and required some serious headbashing... but I have got through it somehow :o)

I work full time, I'm a single parent and have had personal problems over the last few months. I find the course really hard as it is hard to understand some of terminology. I get very frustrated with myself that I seem to take so long before putting in a TMA but ..I'm still going and am really proud of myself that I have achieved 2 x 80% and 1 x 90% marks! and I'm still doing the course!

I am working really hard on my studies, most of my free time after work I spend on studiing. I have to say I enjoy every bit of it. I achieved excelent Results from tests, which are 100%, 80%, 90%, 83%, 100%, which are the last most common. Now I can say I am able to make easier type of Web Sites and I can explain how internet works, and many more. Even if I will not win this competation I can say that slowly but surely I feel as a winer of planty knowledge, thanks to you.

I've had to put my course on hold for almost a year, because I had just given birth to a baby girl and my husband had to leave for 7 month to Iraq... I didn't think that those circumstances would allow me to dedicate myself properly to the course. At the beginning of the new year, I resumed my course. I get up every morning at 7am to study for a couple of hours before my baby wakes up... I have studied the first few weeks for nothing, as I found out that you had sent me the wrong study material... I felt so disheartened and gutted and wanted to stop the course. I eventually got the right study material sent out to me and I have been working really hard on it for the last couple of weeks and managed to submit already two TMA's with excellent results. I am very proud of myself that I made the effort to resume my course after a long and sometimes difficult break with my husband being away in a dangerous place

Hi, this course is alot harder than I expected, I'd done a OCR Level 1 for IT Users (New CLAIT) a few years ago, (As then my Colombian wife wanted me to get a job in IT), but now divorsed, I want it for myself, also working full time, and lots of things happening in my life I am very pleased with the progress I have made, I've not got top marks yet, and I've got to re-submit TMA 3, I am finding more time to study as this course means alot to me and my future, thanks.

Hello. Before this course I didn't know how computer works out.I knew only the way how to use it in internet but I haven't clue what it is.I asked my friends to help me with some problems which I used to get from internet because I didn't understand what realy to do with this things. One day they said that I should learn some basic about computers and not disturb them.Once my computer has got down I felt awkward to ask my friends to help me out with problems. This was the first step why I have chosen computer course. So far I achived a lots of things how to use my machine in right ways and how to work out with any problems.Second step.My mind was thinking about to get better job.Now I've got a good job but not enough for me.I mean there is good money but hard job.Other way I will leave this country and try to find some job back in Russia.I think that this course will help me to find out my financial problems back in Russia. The last step. I try to prove myself and my friends that I can do on computer evrything without them help. Now I can speak with them much better than it was too.I understand everything what they says about programs ,internet conection, outlook express, mark up languages, modeling, processors and other staff which make them amazement.I proud that I have chosen this course. Everything what I typed a here was achiving from youth course.Thank you for a big suport in this hard job wich you are doing for us.

This month I have achieved my highest grade so far . I also built my first computer with self taught knowledge ,I was really pleased when I booted it up for the first time . Im on the last part of my first book now and I cant wait for the next one .I work two jobs one full time and one part time so finding the time to study can be tough but its worth it when I get the letter with my latest results ...

I managed to continue with my course despite devastating news that my father in law died before christmas .Wasn't able to go to the funeral as held in New Zealand due to finances/time off in the job I am at present.Felt depressed to continue but pulled myself around to pursue a better career and life for me and my family.
