I have had two heart attacks since Nov 06 and a 6 week stay in hospital due to the last one. I asked my wife to bring in my work to me so I could continue studing even though I was hooked up to machines all day and dosed on painkillers. I have managed to get 100% in first assignment and 93% in second. I didnt know a thing about pc's now I have fixed a friends pc which had basic problems and I was able to upgrade my own ram and put in a bigger hard drive. I'm doing this course for my family so they can have a better quality of life with the income I will get when I get a job in this field of pc repair and maintanance. I have found I'm teaching my eldest son 7yrs things about the pc as well which is helping him in school

In April of 2006 I was diagnosed with cancer, this was after suffering for almost 12 months with back pain. After numerous tests and scans it transpired that I had a tumour in my lung which had spread to my spine. This meant surgery to remove the tumour in my lung which was carried out in May of that year. Unfortunately nothing could be done about my spine, surgery in that area could very likely lead to paralysis. I was told then that I would have to retire early because I was no longer fit for my work. What does a “young” 60 year old do, I have always had a physical job so to be told—“THAT'S IT”— is devastating to say the least.
That's when a leaflet dropped through my letterbox advertising SKILLSTRAIN and I thought “WHY NOT”, after all I had nothing else to do. I didn't want to just crawl away into a corner and give up that would have been far too easy. After meeting one of Skillstrain's representatives I decided to sign up, I had to keep my mind alert and what better way than studying. I knew little or nothing about the workings of a PC, how to turn it on and off was about my limit. So the course I chose, PC HARDWARE and MAINTENANCE, seemed to be my best option. When all of the course material arrived I thought “surely this can't all be mine” but it was. I decided then and there that, come Hell or high water, I would give it my best shot. As they say “When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going”.
At first I found it hard to concentrate, after all it had been a good few years since I last studied. I was never very good at school but I set my stall out and got stuck in. After a while I found I was managing really well and decided to try my first TMA. Nail biting time, but when I actually did submit one and got my marks I was over the moon. For the Foundation test I got 80% but when I did the 1st. actual TMA I scored a remarkable 96%. Needless to say I was elated my wife included and it made me resolve to keep with it. I have maintained a consistent scoring rate since then regularly getting the MAGIC 100% and I now consider myself an “A GRADE” student even though I have a long way to go yet. I have managed to help out a few friends with various problems on their computers, so that has spurred me on even further, this coming from someone who had never before seen the insides of a PC. All this helped me gain more and more confidence.
My friends and more especially my wife have been a tremendous help to me, always ready to listen to my troubles. Whenever I have felt like giving up and crawling away from it all, my wife has given me that extra nudge I needed to keep me pointed in the right direction. I know it can't have been easy for her and as I say there is still a long way to go before all the fireworks and streamers, (if any). I am now more determined than ever to complete the course and maybe even go on and take the exam. The very thought of taking the exam is daunting to say the least I know it's not going to be easy, nothing in this life ever is, but with the help of my wife and friends, I know “I CAN DO IT”.
I hope other people May read this and take heart, just remember, there is no such word as "CAN'T" especially in my dictionary. Take the bull by the horns and just do what I did “GO FOR IT”
Chris.

I have been through so many difficulties that nearly stopped me from continuing this program, from family break up to loss of roof over my head. My mind was completely off me but I pulled together quicly knowing that finishing this course will ultimately bring another future to me. I have managed to submit my TMA 05 and began to study for the next module.

I think my biggest achievement yet during my whole time with CIW (almost end of course) has to be section 3 Part B TMA's 5A,B and C, I found 5C quite difficult and was expecting a reasonably low result. but the day came when my results were posted on the view tma's page, and I got 100% for all 3! I was flabergasted!I could'nt beleive it, TMA's 5A and C required actual written essays and reports so its all down to your knowledge and being able to express it properlly, so as it turns out I'm not half bad! and that is my biggest acheivment yet! Thanks skillstrain

At first I thought I should be the student of the month because my birthday falls on March, thinking again I think it's about making a statement, looking back then and then looking now here, at where you are.
My Dad was assassinated while I was in Africa(I guess politics would never change) then my Mum came a year later and took me to Belgium(she's a Belgium national),I did my orientation , l studied the language(as much as I could) and then moved to the United Kingdom to school.
In January, my sisters friend told us about SkillsTrain. If the truth be told, all this time I wish I could say or was certain about what I really wanted to do but in the mist of everything and starting all over again without friends mentors and Families I think I just lost it.
I had wanted to become a doctor but in reality I could see it wasn't going to be possible, not anymore and the reasons are ...Complicated, Let's just say using the smart acronym it was specific, attainable, measurable and Time bound but not realistic, not anymore.
SkillsTrain has kept me back on track,My sister and I are student with skillsTrain and I read and have to understand for Me and her as she goes to University and I have to explains things to her as she has little or no time and we're doing just fine or rather we're doing too well.
At this point I would like to thank you guys at SkillsTrain for breaking down your books and the whole study materials, it's made study really easy.
Skillstrain helps me look forward and the month of March has made me understand more than ever.
The month of March!!!It's been good but schooling with SkillsTrain has been better.
Thank You.

I started this course with knowing nothing about computers but now I know something. If I need any explanation on any qustion, the way the tutors will explain, is fantastic, and excellent. They will break it into pieces and pick them one by one and explained
It's very good. That has make me have excellent result today.I give them thanks.

I have resumed my studies in mid February after a few months break. At that time I was doing the old version of N+. My tutors informed me of new course, so with their consultation I opted the latest version of N+.
Studying under my present circumstances is very difficult for me. I have the responsibility of looking after a demanding 1 year old child. My husband is a doctor & has busy commitments in the hospital. Therefore I have to look after my baby, my house, do all the cooking & cleaning & the necessary shopping without any help. My child has difficulty in sleeping so I have to spend sleepless nights with her. Recently my child also remained unwell due to her vaccination. I have my family & friends in the UK who often visit me & I usually find myself entertaining them. In such a situation I managed to take time out of my busy schedule & study 2 hours a day. Despite the above mentioned difficulties I managed to score excellent results obtaining 100% in 6 assignments & 90% in 1 assignment. During the short period of 1 month I completed 8 units out of 10. This in itself is a big achievement.
I think under my circumstances my achievements have been extraordinary by giving the exceptionally excellent results.

Hi there, my name is Rahat Ali. I am a new student at skills train, studying the MSCA programe. When I first started the programe, I found that I was extremly unfamiliar with the type of eperience I had in my past career of studies. I chose the training programe so that I could enter a different type of working environment and improve my prospects for the future. I do believe that I did not have as much self esteem in myself when I first started. After going through my assignments and studying hard, my esteem grew and made me much confident on taking on the whole course. Today I am so glad that I did not break down to giving up on this course. After submitting only 2 TMA's I achieved an excellent result of 93% on both. I was extreremly pleased with the outcome which boosted me further in to the course. The more time I spent studying, the more I found that I finally found something which I enjoy doing, something which I was searching for years. I realise that my results May not be as good in my coming assignments, but I have full confidence that I can make it to the top! Thanks ever so much team.

When I started my Skillstrain course I knew it would be hard for me to keep studying regularly due to the fact that I had a full time job and that I also worked weekends. The only time I can really study is on the weekends before I start my weekend job at 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.Although I have little time to study I have managed to gain some great results and I hope that I can continue to utilise my time efficiently and get my qualifications.

Since I started to do this course I find it much easy dealing with problem and troubleshooting when they occur with my computer and my friend laptop, she was actually amaise of how I was improving.
I must really give thanks to the college for making this possible and I hope to keep my grades always high.
thank you :Godwin

I LOST MOTIVATION LAST YEAR DUE TO ROUND THE CLOCK CHILD CARE FOR MY DAUGHTER. I HAD DONE PART A OF THE COMPTIA A+ AND HAD JUST RECEIVED THE COURSE OUTLINE FOR PART B WHEN I DECIDED TO PACK IT IN AND LOOK FOR WORK INSTEAD. AFTER 2-3 MONTHS LAY OFF, I FOUND A NEW ENTHUSIASM FOR MY WORK AND DECIDED TO PURSUE THE PROGRAMME AFTERALL, I DIDN'T SEE MYSELF QUITING, OR SHIRKING MY RESPONSIBILITIES. SINCE THEN, I HAD COMPLETED PART B AND HAVE MOVED ON TO PART C WITH VERY GOOD PERCENTAGES ALBEIT I HAD A FEW RE-SUBMIT ASSIGNMENTS TO DO. I HAVEN'T LOOKED BACK SINCE THEN, IT IS GETTING MORE INTERESTING, WITH THE HOUSEHOLD CHALLENGES BEFORE ME.

During March I attened a practical session in Luton, and I put into practice what I have been learning. This gave me a lot of confidence to know that I can do what I have learnt, also it helped me to figure out what was wrong with my own computer because I came across the fault while I was working on putting the practice computer together. I also had the chance to ask any questions and get to know the tutors, who were very helpful and answered my questions. Also after I had completed the practical session the following week I helped my grandad work his new dell laptop, and configure my friends wireless connection. I was able to do this because I had attened the practical session and made mistakes and learnt from them.

In December I Started a new job which involved learning a whole new computer system, with high quality driven targets in my new role of Fleet Engineer for a very larger vehicle rental company which is a small part of a very well known international company, I have still managed to submit my TMA's and study. My out look on life is there are never any problems only challenges.

I am currently 3/4 of my way through A+, N+, CCNA and CCNP things have been getting me down recently as I can hardly walk any more and just waiting on further surgery. Anyways enough of the depressing stuff, I think if I didnt have my course work to keep my mind off things as this is a major career move from being in HMS Army to hopefully Networking I dont know where I would be. It keeps me focused on better things to come and it certainlly is a challenge at times but very rewarding when your results come back. So here is to being positive and looking forward to finishing mu course.

When I started the A+ course, I knew absolutely nothing about computers. Since studying now for 2 years, in which time my wife and I have had a baby boy and also had an extension built onto our house. In September last year I built my own PC from parts ( Motherboard, graphics card, 320gb hard drive, Intel Pentium D CPU and fan etc).
I have since installed Windows Vista and upgraded our modem to an Ethernet one.
I hope this qualifies me as Student of the month.

I have only recently become a member of student world and skills train and I think that the help that I have recieved so far for my course and TMA's has been brilliant and has really helped me I have just submitted my first TMA for the forth time and I now think that I have successfully completed it thanks to the teaching department.

After studying the A+ part of the course, I passed CompTIA's A+ Certification 1st attempt, this was quite an achievement for me having previously had only a very rudimentary grasp of the inner workings of the PC. Subsequently I began studying the N+ course material, it was considerably harder than the A+ material for me as I really had no clues regarding networking, other than being able to set up a simple network at home to share the internet connection between 2 machines.
I had an accident which immobilised me for quite some time and it took me a long time to rehabilitate to the point of being able to sit in a chair and use the computer. I was worried I'd not be able to finish the N+ coursework, but thankfully you allowed me to continue, even though it had been a long time since I'd submitted any assignments. I am presently studying for N+TMA 03, my marks for the 1st two TMAs were 100% and I aim to continue at this standard.

Due to this course, I have been the leader in first time fixes since October 2006. I am currently part of a Team of 1st and 2nd Line Support Technicians, but due to the skills I have been learning via this course, I have been promoted to our Internal Support Team, so not only will I be supporting external customers, I will now be supporting my previous Team.

I signed up for this course last February but was too busy working and doing my wedding preparations so I didn't really do any work on my course, now that I'm alot more settled I've managed to spend sometime every day on this course and submit the first 3 TMAs in one month, this is my new year's resolution to if not finish the course this year but do as much as I can to get close to the end. Thanks to my husband to help me greatly and to our tutors who are always there for us.
