Recently I bought my first house and as many people say its one of the most stressful times in your life also I might add the most expensive and because of this I have been taking on more shifts at work and having less time for my course also sorting the house out has taken up even more of my time even though I have still maintained what I feel to be good results in my TMA's and it was only a short while ago I passed my A+ qualification.

I DJ for a hobby, and have just started using a laptop alongside my turntables, this enables me to be more creative, have more fun and save money. However, when I first got the DJing software ( which basically allows you to play and mix mp3)I tried to play 2 songs simualtainously or mix them, the software froze. After areading the manual more in depth, I discovered that I had a RAM issue,I only had 256 when the software required 512. Thanks to doing this course I was able to sucsessfully identify, where my RAM was on the laptop, identify what type it was, purchase and install it and thus resolve the problem.. And because of this relatively simple task, I felt a great sense of achievement and satisfaction. I can't wait to resolve similar issues and get paid for it.

I work long hours some days 12 hours some days 14 hours but always find time to work on my Pc hardware and maintenance my achievement would be just finding time to do my work and have a life at the sametime just hard sometimes not seeing family and my mates. I think sometimes work takes over my life.

I HAVE MANAGED TO UPGRADE MY COMPUTERS MEMORY FROM 128MB TO 512 MB RAM. I HAVE ALSO INSTALLED A GRAPHICS CARD, BECAUSE IT WAS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE COMPUTER GAME THAT I HAD BOUGHT BUT AFTER INSTALLING IT ITS PERFORMING WELL. I ALSO UPGRADED AND INSTALLED A DVD RW. AT FIRST IT DID NOT WORK AS I HAD NOT SELECTED THE MASTER AND SLAVE, BUT AFTER READING THE DOCUMENTATION AND MY NOTES I SET THE NEW DRIVE TO MASTER AND THE OLD ONE TO SLAVE AND NOW ITS WORKING FINE.

I started working life leaving school at 15 with no qualifications and just able to read and write and over the first few years I spent a lot of time getting to know the work. At 18 I started to work for what was then London Transport Executive on the london underground as a porter. Three months later I applied and became a guard and 6 months after that I took up my first post at High Barnet depot. Two Years later I got married and also put in for promotion to a driver. It was while training that I noticed that there could be a quicker way of doing things when problem occured on the train and so I challenged the teacher on this and am proud to say that they took on my suggestion and a matter of course. Once I qualified as a driver I took up my post at Kennington on the northern line. It was while there I got my first computer a commadore VIC 20 and got the computer bug.I started to teach myself thing such as binary, which at first I found totally baffling. However I stuck with it and eventually started to comprehend this and BASIC. With its peeks and pokes.I next progressed to the commador 64 and then started to learn how to address memory addresses and put colour onto the screen and move things about. The 64 VIC chip eventually gave and I replaced this removing the older one and putting its place a socket so that I could insert the chip rather than try soldering it onto the circuit board. After this I purchased an Atari 512 but did not like it much and so also purchased the Amiga. This was a brilliant machine for graphics.

I then decided to quit my job on the underground and go out into the field of computers and become a computer technician. At first I started to work for myself but this proved rather eventful and so I went into the contract market.
Getting my first break through working for an international law firm. This followed other contract work until the bubble burst and so I decided to look for and eventually found a full time job working where I am now.
I feel that for someone who left school at 15 and not been able to read and write properly to eventually find my true calling in the computer industry. thought the journey was long and hard I would say over all it has been worth the trip. To turn my hobby into a career is something I feel proud of.

I have achieved 100% in my written revision aswell as 100% in my previous TMA; this is alongside woking full time and looking after my 9 month old daughter! Since taking this course I have become a head trainer at work for my department, and have managed to train all new and existing staff to a very high standard whilst using our companys' new computer system. I have managed to upgrade a friends desktop by adding a larger RAM and installing a faster graphics card.

I TEMPORARILY DROPPED OUT OF THE PROGRAMME LAST YEAR FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS. I AM INTO THE LAST 3 MODULES OF THE COMPTIA A+ CERTIFICATION. IN THE MONTH OF MAY, I WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE 3 MODULES, TMA 10, 11 AND 12. WITH THE CURRENT DETERMINATION TO SUCCEED, I BELIEVE IT WON'T BE LONG BEFORE I SIT THE EXAMS.

I have been able to achieve tremendous success in my course works despite the fact that I'm currently undertaking a degree course in computer and electronics Engineering. I've been able to combine both courses scoring high grades and also had to work to pay my fees for both courses since my parents were declared bankrupt. I've received great motivation from friends and my mentor. I've always had the believe that I was born for greatness and will always succeed in everything I do. Thanks

I have continued to complete my course with a 90% and 2 100% marks in TMAs 1,2 and 3 respectively after dealing with a loss of a friend to leukemia and the loss of my job.I have also managed to potentially find a job with a new company being setup in computer hardware and networking which will compliment my course perfectly once I complete it!

I have achieved 93% and above on my last 3 TMA`s which is worth celebrating for me. I was concerned that the course would be too difficult for me, but with the amount of study I have done, it seems that if you try hard enough you can achieve almost anything. TMA01 - 100%, TMA02 -93, TMA03 -93%.

When I was about 15 years old, I had no idea about the road ahead of me. I didn't have a clue about what I was in for and the hardship that would test me. It started out like this. I was in High school at the time and was really intimidated by the other students, who were all much bigger than me. Some of them were racist, others just loved to push their weight around. I was in that situation for quite some time. After the hardship I suffered, I decided to break out of the nutshell I was in and take action against them. I got some of them expelled and others got away with it. I had to leave as they became more and more aggressive. Before I left, a few of my relatives in my homeland, Bangladesh, fell ill. Me, and the rest of my family went to visit them, and support them anyway we could. We were their for about 4 - 6 months, but it seemed like a holiday, for most of the time anyway. My parents decided to stay there for a while I came back with my brothers and sister.

When we got back, I was in even more of a mess when I found out I no longer had a place in school because of the amount of time I had been away. So I went along with my brother to The Learning Resource Centre to try and find somewhere else where I could learn and study.

When I heard all the places were full, I decided to go college and take up a course in IT. I thought I should get some qualifications in rather than waste my time starting a year behind. I started a GNVQ in IT, got the best marks in the class, with the best punctuality and attendance, only rivalled by the only girl in our class.

After I finished my first year at college, I decided to take up some serious work. So I got into a market research company in Central London. The pay was great and the experience was very fulfilling. After a while had passed, I thought of it as a dead end and realised I would be doing my future no favours by sitting there and just working deeper into a black hole, well, that's what it felt like.

A realised I had to take action, so I went onto the internet in search of something which would help me progress deeper into the IT industry.

That's when I saw it, it was like my questions had been answered. I clicked on to the link and left my contact details.

Later that week, I received a phone call from a really nice lady from skills train, I forget what her name is, she asked me what I wanted from life, what I wanted to do and what I wanted to achieve and whether I'm looking for new skills or a change of career. I told her I want to do something in IT as the whole concept of computers fascinates me. I want to make my future in computing. We had a little chat and then she booked in an appointment so the course advisor can come and speak to me.

A few days later, the course advisor came and knocked on my door. He was really friendly and polite as he asked me some questions. I agreed to do the course because I believe this qualification will get me VERY far in life and also help me achieve what I want to do, and the great thing is that I have total freedom to study whenever I wanted. But the thing I like about it most is that the tutors are really helpful and friendly.

I once called up one of the tutors and I felt a bit low on motivation, I explained my situation and I don't know what he said exactly, but it filled me with more motivation than when I had started the course. Now I'm studying extra hard and putting more time in, and because of the talk I had with the tutor, it really pushed me in the right direction, and my scores on my recently submitted TMA's prove it!

I'd just like to thank the tutor team for being so helpful and the course advisor for giving me this opportunity and the website which had Skills Train as a link, because at the end of the day, if they weren't there, I would not be on this road to success!

I enrolled on a course with skillstrain in February with only basic pc knowledge. The first few months were a sruggle trying to find time to study while raising my son on my own and holding down a full time job, I was beginning to think I had taken too much on and would not be able to complete the course. After carefully considering my options I realised that getting in to the it industry was my ultimate goal and so I have now reduced my hours at work to part time which has given me alot more time to study. I have submitted 5 TMA's throughout May and am really enjoying the course now. Thanks for all your help skillstrain!

It has taken me about 1 year to get into the course due to the fact that I am a nurse, wife mother of three grown up children, have four granchildren of whom I look after to let their parents work, also have 2 dogs 1 cat 2 rabits guinea pigs as pets to keep the granchildren happy. But now its time to really get into the course of which I am very interested in, I like taking computers to bits to see how they work, and someday hopefully I will change my job direction to computers installation and repair, and show my 9 year old grandson a few tricks of the trade can only help his future as well.

I DECIDED TO GO FOR A CHALLENGE, INSTEAD OF LIVING DAY TO DAY. THIS COURSE HAS REALLY OPENED UP A WHOLE NEW WORLD FOR ME, NEVER THINKING I COULD DO ANYTHING LIKE THIS.I HAVE STARTED WORKING ON MY OWN PC, WHICH IS NOW WORKING FASTER AND BETTER THAN WHEN I FIRST STARTED. I AM ENJOYING THE NEW KNOWLEDGE THAT I HAVE ALREADY PICKED UP, KNOWING THERE IS A VERY LONG WAY TO GO.
HELPING IMPROVE OTHERS WORK STATIONS OR PERSONAL PC'S/ LAPTOPS IS THE FULL AIM I HAVE, AND KNOWING THAT I CAN HELP OTHERS IS WHAT IS DRIVING ME FORWARD WITH MORE DETERMINATION.

Being a nurse and my fascination to technology seemed not a good mix, especially to my friends at work. After reading and finishing my first assignment, one of the trouble shooting model (Comp TIA's A+) really struck me by it's logical approach. Mind you, I applied this when I was oncall attending to a patient who was having a heart attack. Of course I asked the patient what he was feeling, and identified chest pain and shortness of breath as the immediate problem, we confirmed that the chances are he really having heart attack. Medicines and equipments for possible angiography were readied before the consultant arrived. The patient was confirmed having a heart attack after angiography and the blockage of his heart was removed. The procedure just lasted 20 minutes which could have normally lasted 45 minutes or more, because of early preparation with the aid of logical application of problem solving technique. It was really a very smooth procedure compared to an emergency scene I see everyday when you know what's happening, you know what's causing it to happen, and you know how to stop it from happening.
