I have achieved a fantastic result in building my first Computer, its been the happiest time for me. The Lady was a novice never really used a computer, but I built it and taught her how to use it, she knows I am only a call away and she is doing really well and now on the internet and doesn't need much help from me. She just asked me to help her friend with a computer, and show her how to use it and to upgrade it for her.

I have gained alot of PC knowledge and managed to fix my own computer in various ways, for example a wireless networking system.

I thought I would drop you a line and let you know how the course is going. I enrolled with Skills Train in February to do A+, N+, CCNA and finally CCNP ("this will keep me out of mischief for some time").

Initially I was full of feelings of self doubt and was rather nervous to say the least. Reason being that I am 42 years old and the last time I undertook major studies such as this, was almost 20 years ago!

When I received my material and started looking over the work, It dawned on me just how little I actually knew! We have all heard a lot of the terminologies used at some stage in our lives and careers, but never really new what they meant, how they functioned or for that matter how they fitted into the workings of the system.

I have found that by reading over the section twice and utilising two highlighters the information is sticking in my old 'Grey Matter' surprisingly well.

I have managed to achieve gradings of 80% and above so far and I can honestly say that I am thoroughly enjoying myself.

I can truthfully say that my self confidence is growing and is boosted when I get my marked results back every week! My only regret is that I did not do this earlier in my life!

Who said, "you can't teach an old dog new tricks"!

Thanks for the support and encouragement.

It is amazing what the course with Skills Train can do! I have searched for computer based job since I set foot in the UK.

I had my University education and a Diploma in computer hardware and Software Engineering from outside the UK and that could not guarantee me computer based job. The moment I put the course I'm doing with Skills Train on my CV(Curriculum Vitae), I landed a Data entry job with Christian Salvesen. It is a computer based job. My dream is achieved.

I say a Big thank you to Skills Train and All its staff.

First of all I would like to thank the Tutor team and skills train for helping me with my studies. As maybe you can see/notice that for the past months my entrance to the student world and assignment completion have been rare because of the circumstances beyond my control. My grandad passed away in January after being sick for some time. I was very low at the time as I couldn't go home and at the same time my mother was diagnosed with heart problems. This really put pressure on me financially and hard to make ends meet. During this time I couldn't focus on my studies always on the phone to my relatives making sure my mum was doing well in hospital(Zimbabwe) doctors were on strike. It was very hard to keep calm and put my mind to anything I tried to read from course material. Again, with the help of tutors after having problems with Live Lab I managed to start with loggin in to live lab and practice trying to keep myself strong and to try and forget about the problems. It was a big mountain to climb on my own and took a lot from me. My mum is still in hospital but doing a bit better.

I would like to personally thank Myra helping me continue with my live lab and I've managed to finish CCNA TMA 07 without any problems. Thanks for the opportunity to talk/tell someone about my problems. I feel much better now as I'm achieving something and I have now joined CISCO SYSTEMS CCNA PREP CENTRE (CCNA TV -VideoOnDmand) for more assistance.
Keep up the good work. Thank you.

I have had to restart my course work 3 times in the 5 months that I have been with "Skills Train". I therefore, haven't been able to successfully finish "PC Hardware & Maintenance" nor "CompTIA A+ 2003" with the limited time I have got from when I am not working in "Catering" (kitchens, cheffing is time consuming and hard work whilst being unsociable), planing time to do college work and also see my Wife, Family and Friends in the short time I have to myself is VERY difficult and having to stop the progress on the "PC Hardware & Maintenance" and "CompTIA A+ 2003" and move to the "CompTIA A+ 2006" is very Disconcerting and understandably off putting in the feeling that I am going to be moved from the "CompTIA A+ 2006" which I am currently studying in 30 day's, and fitting in with the past events my achievements are that I have now got past the first TMA of "CompTIA A+ 2006" and now going to be sending you the second one in about 30 min, to me that's a great achievement as I have finally got past TMA 1 and also TMA 2 and can now hopefully move on to TMA 3 without interruption.

I have also tried to make a time table for my college work that will fit within the unsociable hours that I have to work in the caring industry and the "Student Timetables" that you have left as a help guide really don't fit in with ever changing shift work that catering poses.

I hope this will give you a better understanding of what you are asking from people when you keep changing course material, also looking that not every one works 9-5 mon-fri that want to change their career.

I know this sounds like I am just moaning about what has happened and also feel that it is an "Isolated" instance but there is people out there that have had to change from one study guide to another but I don't feel they have had to do it as often in the time span I have had to do. I have been with "Skills Train" just over 5 months and are now on my 3rd study guide changing twice big smiles though I'm sure we will get me to the CCNP finish line soon enough and a better and more exciting job thank you.

I haven't studied since late December 2006, when I realised the course material had changed and I would not be ready to sit the exam in March, which mean't I had to start from the beginning again, I lost all enthusiasm for the course, pressure at worked picked up and I ended up working over 50 hours a week. Then to cap it all my PC crashed and would not start up again, this was not a major problem as work bought me a new computer which is a better spec, it was when my future father in law asked me to look in the local paper and see if there were any cheap second hand PC's which would suit his needs that I realised I should be able to fix my old work PC from what I have learnt so far. So I asked work if they didn't mind me taking it home and trying to fix it, they said ok and off home it went with me.

I started by removing the casing and familiarised myself with the construction, checked all the wiring was connected properly, all were connected correctly, so scratching my head I turned to my training manuals for advise, quickly flipping through I discovered the PSU might be at fault, after a quick phone call to a electrician friend I had borrowed a multimeter and proceeded to to test the cables, first I checked the power lead and found that to be working, so I then moved onto the individual power connectors from the PSU and surprisingly there was no reading. So I unplugged all the connectors and removed it from the casing, I took it down to a local PC repair centre and explained what I thought was wrong, he confirmed my suspicions and asked if I had a surge protector at work, which I didn't, he explained that as we had a lightning storm recently a power surge could of damaged the PSU. After checking the details he ordered me a new PSU. It arrived the following week, and in just under 1 hour of careful re-assembling the PC, I pressed the on button, and believe it or not it booted up. I delivered the cleaned up PC to my future father in law the following day with a big smile on my face. Now I find myself around his house at least once a fortnight giving him lessons on how to make the most out of his PC and internet connection, which I am more than happy to do.

From this experience I have refound my enthusiam for the course and the enjoyment it used to give me, learnt something new, now both my work and my future father in law have surge protectors installed, and realised even though I have to start from the begining again, it won't take me long to catch up.

I must admit that I did Hardware before coming doing this course but I have seen a great difference. My knowlegde about computers is grown and I am no more timid when it comes to computers. I am able to effectively deal with both portable computers and desk top as well.

I used what I have learnt and have applied it to a real life situation in my job (computer technician). One example of this was when a computer we had in wasn't displaying the graphics card under the device manager meaning the screen could only be displayed in 600x480. My fellow workmates were ready just to wipe everything and reinstall windows. So I had a look at the computer and I thought it was really strange how it wasn't displaying in the device manager. I remembered that in my course I learnt about IRQ's and how sometimes they can conflict and cause problems. So I went into the device manager, view resources by type, expanded the IRQ box, and sure enough there was several devices all using the same IRQ number including one that said 'graphics adapter.' I uninstalled all the devices with conflicting IRQ's, restarted windows, windows found them again and assigned them different IRQ's it also found the graphics card again meaning it would display a nice 1280x1024. Thanks to this course I saved us alot of time and hassle and saved the customer a fair amount of money.

Well to kick off I had 2 spinal operations in 1997, which made me lose the best job I have ever had, I am married with 6 children and 2 grandchildren so money was very thin after spending all my savings, then before you know it you get caught in the trap of surviving on the dole with sickness payment for the first 6 months, then I got a part time job with the firm I worked for before only to have a collapse in my lower spine which caused a fussing in the spine with another op, I wished a hole would open up and take me away, I have been diagnosed with colitis swelling in the last 5 months, but I am still looking forward to getting my A+ and N+ which May take away the problems I have now as stress is the cause for a lot of problems and getting these will mean a better life for my family and it will give me the confidence that I have lost as I need to get back to work A.S.A.P. then my doctors said they will sign me off the sick if I pass my A+ N+, so that is the incentive pushing me forward.

I have only been a student for a few months I feel I have done extremely well getting up to tma 4 mainly because I have studied very hard.

I am a new student, I started this course to keep my mind active as I have recently suffered an anurysm of the anterior artery in my brain, and as a result lost my job teaching electronics to foreign students. This course has helped me immensely, and I have managed to achieve results of 100% on some of my TMA's.

During the past few days I manage to fix my friend's computer with the knowledge I get from my studies. I also managed to complete all my Assignment-14, section 1,part A-and part B in three weeks time. And I have managed to increase my pass grade by studying hard.

Well first off I would say I have achieved much this past month on my course. I set myself a Goal and have beat it! managing to submit 2 TMA's plus a TMA written assignment, which I think is quite good if you are not employed. But as I am in full time employment aswell I think I've done quite well. I hope I can keep it up Good luck to everyone.

I have just started my course with skillstrain purely because I was with another provider doing the exact course having being told I had tutors etc, the day came when I needed a little help so I picked the phone and gave the company a call........ To find out that I don't have a tutor and the only way I can get help is through fellow students, the course was quiet a lot of money, due to the fact of having a family! all what I had learnt was on a self learn basis with no help what so ever.

THEN I contacted SKILLSTRAIN and now I am doing the course with these guys knowing that help is just a call away, although I have to start from scratch again its not a problem to me because I have the will to get on and succeed no matter how many steps forward and back you take I believe you will get there in the end !! I had spent over a year doing this course so you could imagine how many hours, paper, ink etc I have used but I guess those notes will come in handy.I must say that ICS ( did I say that?? ) are PANTS !! all they wanted was my money but as I said I am not going to let them put me down with their useful comments. A BIG THUMBS UP FOR SKILLSTRAIN who have saved me !!

My results are normaly 90-100%. Studying has been a little difficult as my wife was having a harder than normal pregnancy and was having to spend most of my time helping her. Since the birth I am still managing to maintain fairly high results while tendering to baby and wife.

Dear Team, I have found the course to be of the most valuable and exciting course I'v been on! and I have been on a few. It has helped me to know more about computers and there technologies than I thought I could grasp, but the way the course matirial is set out, it's very easy to understand.
My wife say's she has a job to keep up with me, but I help her aswell.
Thank you for all the support you give.
