Before I started my A+ course I knew absolutely nothing at all about computers. Then as my course progressed I found out more and more about them. I was doing quite well until the building of our house extension started in May 2006. As a qualified Electrician I was required to wire all the extra rooms and fit smoke detectors etc.

Then in June 2006 my wife gave birth to our 2nd child, which along with my working on the extension took up all of my time, leaving me with no time at all to study my A+ course. In September 2006 I built my own computer because our existing one was running very very slowly as it only had a 30gb hard drive which was full. We only had 192mb of RAM. So I decided to build a completely new computer from scratch with my new found knowledge from studying the A+ course.

After some research I went out and bought a Gigabyte motherboard, 3.2Ghz Intel Pentium D dual core CPU and fan, 256mb Radeon XT 1600 graphics card, DVD/CD-ROM drive, floppy disc drive, 200gb IDE hard drive and a tower unit with a case fan built in. I then spent the next week building my own computer using the existing keyboard, mouse and speakers.

When I had finished installing all the drivers for the printer, broadband, motherboard, graphics card, and all our antivirus/antispyware software, my Family and I had a fully operational FAST computer.

I have since purchased and installed Windows Vista on to a separate 320gb IDE hard drive which is fitted alongside the 200gb drive and can be accessed from the the boot menu.

I hope this story qualifies me as a student who has made some progress in the world of IT, and some inspiration to new students who are just starting out.

I started the course in December last year but I have done other courses. I wanted to learn about the workings of the PC so I started to learn about PC hardware and maintenance. I am starting the assignments but learning more as I go through the course. I am 56 year old postman who is trying to learn a new job in PC.

I started my course in January and finished the first part within 3 months, I had to redo two section. It's good as I taught myself and worked harder at this course. When you worked for a company for 15years and they say goodbye and thanks we have to let you go, your service is not needed any more. I thought this is my chance for change of job and to start a new career. I have been helping friends and family to repair their computer.

For my line of work I have little time to spare, yet I focus to complete each TMA weekly and use the weekends to finalize the topic. For some the weekend is a day to relax, more socializing and catching up but I priorities on my studies to achieve my target which will lead me to a new career of my expectation that I'm looking for.

I'm planning to complete the A+ course by end of this year even though for my knowledge it could be done any sooner but I prefer to study at my own pace so that I don't lose concentration on my studies and I like to refer to the internet to understand more on the study materials as well as using the web mail to get assistance from my tutor which is a great help to me personally.

At the time of this submission, I have already completed Section 1, Part A and have received the Part B of my study material which I will start on this week and submit the TMA by beginning of the following week.

When I started the A+ course I was a little concerned. I was worried that I did not have enough experience in computing, and I would not understand the work I would be given, with a little help from the tutors and the text books, I have gained a little more confidence. Three months ago, when reading PC magazines and listening to my uncles (who work in various it environments), I did not understand a word they said when talking about hardware and software. Now I find myself understanding them and they involve me into their conversations now. I can read my magazines and understand them with out much thought. This is what I dreamed of when I fist started the course. I can't believe how much I have learnt from this course in such a short time, and I can't wait to learn more.
Thank to all at skills train.

I have recently achieved a position within a local I.T company which sells I.T hardware and software such as EPoS and CCTV equipment, although I have been working there for quite a few months in a sales capacity, since passing my driving test I am now being fully trained in installations and both physical and telephone technical support which I hope will give me a great advantage within the course I am undertaking.

I was a serving soldier for 24.5 years up until Mar 2004 when I was medically discharged with (PTSD) Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Major Depression Re occurring, a common psychiatric injury of war. The symptoms I had were insomnia, aggressiveness, depression, dissociation, emotional detachment, nightmares and potential memory loss, with all that suicidal attempts.

February this year I decided to do something with my life I discovered skills-train and arranged a meeting with one of their representative in Feb2007. After spending nearly three hours with the representative I was convinced that this company can give a boost to my knowledge of the PC and will help me to get into a well paid job. I have joined the course of PC Hardware and Maintenance (A+) and (N+) and since I started my course, Mar 2007, it has given me a lot of self confidence. I have managed to help out a few friends with various problems on their computers, so that has spurred me on even further. All in all I am really pleased with myself and it just proves that if you want to learn something anything is possible. I intend completing both A+ and N+ and looking forward to taking the A+ professional exam Later on in this year. Keep it up Skills-Train you have gave me my life back.

I have just completed section Two Part B. I have never done any payroll before. In my first tutor-assessed assignment 13 I just achieved a mark of 52% which is very low for me, because I did not understand it properly. So I revised the chapters again and studied harder. On my next assignment I achieved a mark of 95%. So studying harder helped me with understanding the payroll theory and achieving higher points.

I had a knowledge in computers when I started this course, but little in hardware specifications. When I started reading and understanding my course book I've learned that my knowledge in computer hardware is not sufficient, I've learned so many things like fat32 from ntfs, different kind of voltage required to every components and peripheral. How to handle or trouble shoot a computer and how to approach a speficific problem a computer technician like asid, novell's approach, comptia +a.etc. I'm very interested to finish my study course and continue to study more for my career.

When I first started this course I was happy knowing that everything was going great. During the past two months I have lost my house and family and I am currently going through divorce proceedings but I am not going to let these things get on top of me because now I have the chance to excel in everything I put my mind to and I intend to pass this course which has opened my eyes to everything about computers which makes me more determined to go forward in a possitive manner. With the knowledge that I have gained through this course I have been able to build my own computer and so far it is working quite well which makes me feel great knowing that I have acheived such a result.

I started my course In February 06. Due to a lot of family problems in the summer of that year my studying was severely effected. Fortunately things have got better now, but then I went and changed jobs. Looking at my last couple of months I think I have done exceptionally well, I work very hard shift patterns which mean I have to study early into the mornings sometimes, I also have to juggle my main job with two other teaching posts that I hold. I have recently managed to submit an assignment every 2 weeks and every one of them has had marks of 90% or more which has given me a great sense of achievement and makes me want to study more and more.

I got 90% in my 1st tutor assessment. I've just completed chapter 2 in one weekend and left it a few days before taking the next tutor assessment so it wasn't so fresh in my head, which I have emailed to the teaching department. I've become sucked into the course now and I'm studying as much as I can, I'm reading every night before I go to bed for at least one hour and on the weekends I'm reading when I wake up for at least three hours and at least two hours before I go to bed that evening. I'm hoping to have completed the third chapter by next weekend.

Hello, my achievements last month (February) was that I completed and received back my first TMA 01. Unfortunately, I was not able to start the course last year like I wanted to because of lots going on in my life. I decided I wanted to start the course, as circumstances improved, and was so thrilled to receive my first TMA with a mark of 95%. I really, really hope that this is the way of things to come. I really enjoy doing the course. I am new to this, but I am thrilled that I have picked a new career to pursue that I can eventually work from home with my own business.

Thanks to my course tutors.

Hi there, I really wanna share my feelings about this course. My first TMA result was 80% second was 85% and the third one was 95%, now I am waiting for my fourth TMA result which I believe will be 100%. I think I have learned alot and at the same time I'm going deeper in to the subject. At the start I was not sure what I was doing but now I seem like I am loving it.

Well I've been doing the ciw website design management course for almost year although at the start I found it hard to do the course and work full time and keep seeing my long term girlfriend but recently its all coming together with pure determination and I've made up for the 2 months I lost up with a damaged eye about 6 or 7 months ago which meant I could not do any work at this time, but like I said it is now all coming together and really hoping to get a great job at the end of it.

I have already introduced my girlfriend to do a book keeping course and would recommend anyone to do it.

Since I joined skills train last year I have learnt so much. Even when I thought I knew all there was to know. Skill Train can help you so much, As when your self teach like myself you don't always pick up everything about each subject but skills train breakes it all up and you learn so quickly and so easy I advise anyone who wants a career in computers to join. You can work at your own time as well which I've found very useful as I love to hang about with my friends still as I'm only 17 but I'm looking forward to my future in website design thanks to skills train.

I submitted my first TMA on 25/11/06 and have have just completed my 11th for marking (which I'm sure will be 100%). Currently standing at an average of 91.90% for the total TMA's I am a bit disappointed as a couple of questions I didn't read properly. Never mind.

I have been in I.T now for 22 years. As a Systems Administrator. I work for a large company running production on my own supporting Unix, Windows servers, network and all the office environment. Supporting the on-line production lines and 1st line PC's repair whether it be hardware or software. Responsible for all the nightly security backups and Monitoring. etc. One of my many projects is Business Continuity for the company, where one of the tasks was to completely rebuild the company Web Cluster. This I have just completed and ready to go live. My next task will be the File Cluster and Domain servers etc.
I work 12 hour shifts and always plenty of overtime, which is none refusal as there are only four of us, one per shift. I work nights and days, every Sunday and every second Saturday.

Why am I telling you all this?

The reason is that there is always time to study no matter how few hours you May find in a day. If I can do it with all the activities that I'm involved with at work and hardly appear to be at home then so can you. Even 30 minutes a day will help.

I am currently studying CIW Website Design Manager and wish I had started this before now. The course up to now is very good indeed and I would recommend to anyone who wishes to advance into this world. Like I said prior. I have been in I.T for 22 years and have a vast amount of knowledge in a lot of areas and have programming experience. But since starting this course I have learnt a vast amount of things that I never knew. It goes to prove that you never know everything in you trade. This course has proven that. To complete this course is something that I have pledge to do. Not purely for another career but to advance my skills and knowledge for the company I work for.

Anybody who has thought of this course then please give it a go. Very good indeed and have you seen the course syllabus? phew. With passing this exam you could get a job in any area of I.T.
