I suffered a severe mental illness which left me unable to work as a landscape gardener in July 2000. I slowly recovered over 5 and a half years with many setbacks. I took up the CIW course in June 2006. I was enjoying my studies when my father was diagnosed with terminal cancer in late 2006. He died in the new year and I slipped back into problematic mental health problems which I have now just about stabilised. I am now working furiously and more determined to achieve my goal of becoming a CIW Website Design Manager as I have gained a great inner confidence through my continued learning. The course has been very well structured and supported so far, which has also made the experience very enjoyable and rewarding, it's true that one should never lose sight of one's goal no matter what life throws at us.

The last few months for me have been really hard, on top of the fact my laptop has broken twice and had to be wiped clean of all my work, my partner has been to and from hospital.

Although all this has been happening around me I have always felt content about completeing my work with skills train as, as everyone knows we can work at our own pace and have great support from the team whilst were completing the course. I believe if I was in college or university I would of had to have quit my course by now as I would of been really far behind with work.

After months of trying to juggle the studying, homelife, kids and work (nights) I can finally see that it will all be worth it in the end. Just sent in TMA 10 and waiting for the results, still averaging 95% and I actually know that the work that I have done is paying off. I recently upgraded the memory and the graphics on my home pc and it now works like a dream. Actually being phoned up to come and try and sort out peoples PCs (for a fee !!) and I have also got a placement with a local IT solutions firm in order to broaden my horizons in the IT world. Still got a long way to go but I am no longer out of my depth and will be be looking forward to my career change, probably after Christmas.

I have found much of the information in this course completely mind-blowing so my learning curve has been huge!!! However, last month I was able to identify that my manager's computer had suffered a terminal error (blue screen plus a message saying preparing to dump hard drive data!! not too difficult I know but rather satisfying to know I had got it right!). I am doing this course whilst working full time and trying to organise two children, one of which is trying to get into the GB squad for slalom canoeing and combining study with plenty of training and driving is interesting. I am determined to complete this course as I have worked in the Health Service all my life and feel that this is one of my few options for changing my life and having some choice in what I do and when I do it. Unfortunately I am unwell at the moment and having to take time off work - first time in my life apart from maternity leave so this is a new experience and not a pleasant one. Continuing to study when I can and get nearer to changing my life and that of my family for the better.

Well, after a busy first half of the year I was struggling to keep up with my study timetable and also lead a busy life. I work for a medium sized telecomms/I.T company and have been trying to move more into the I.T side of things, as I believe there is more prospects and opportunity, but this has proved difficult as I do not have the necessary experience they require, that was one of the main reasons I embarked on this study programme and course.

Well, about 6 weeks ago I was on a job in a textile factory installing a new phone line, when the head of Their I.T enquired if my company installed and maintained computer networks and all the associated peripherals, I told him yes and agreed to take a quick look around so I could report back to my company with a basic outline of what equipment was onsite. I got back to my office that afternoon and reported back to the I.T manager of my company, in as much detail as I could, with their requirements. As a result of this and applying the knowledge I had gained through this course, the I.T Manager had a meeting with the textile company, and won a five year maintenance contract. Now, I have a full time position in the I.T department as an ICT technician in training. It has certainly spurred me on and now I can devote that little bit more time to my studies as I am able to study at work.

I had started IT Bsc but was forced to leave university in my first year. In March 2003 I had a routine back operation and was assured full recovery within 1 month, however four years later and I am still suffering from excruciating lower back Pain (coxcyc bone). It has made my life very difficult and is worst when sitting. The pain becomes unbearable very quickly. To say things have been difficult is a huge underestimation. Nearly two years after my operation I enroled for this course. I was lying down working on a laptop but that made my back worse so I requested and was granted "time out". My wife who has been great from the beginning was obviously under massive amounts of stress and after four years of battling this hard reality it finaly became to much and she suffered a VT attack (a serious heart condition). It was brought about by stress. I was visited by a friends relative recently who is a doctor abroad. He advised me to take some medicine and since taking it I have found some relief. It has allowed me to put in time so I am able to continue with the course. I submitted my assignment recently where I had to design a web site. It was my first assignment since restarting my course. I got 100%. Some days are still very difficult now my wifes health is not so great anymore but I am determined to complete this course and am very glad I began it. Maybe there are many other place offering similar courses but I am glad I chose scheidegger as the whole service they provide is excellent and most importantly the way they have understood my personal issues and even this competition shows they really care about making a difference in peoples lives.

Having gone through 5 years of pure hell, marriage breakup, bankruptcy, house moves, family bereavement, I've finally succeeded in putting all of those negative experiences behind me. I've landed myself a fabulous role as PA to a dynamic entrepreneur who's confident that I can enhance and improve his rapidly growing business. With the knowledge I will gain from the IT Skills course, I've can envisage, even at this early stage in my studies, how invaluable this course will be for ME in terms of applying to HIS business the knowledge that I will gain.

This is only the beginning; the best and the rest is yet to come!

Managing to still continue with my course at a reasonable pace even though I am currently changing job to try and increase my health. I have not been well recently and even have to go to hospital tomorrow so managed to complet a TMA today and hope to be getting more study done during my stay in hospital. I am finding this course to be of great depth but also put to me so it is as easy as it can be to understand. Thank you

Since ever I started training with skillstrain,I have radiated confidence and attended two interwiew and was successful to the extent that the interviewer said he is going to start recommending skillstrain when I answered the question ;what do you understand by the following HUB,ROUTER & SWITCHES.

HUB is a wiring concentration for a LAN & WAN that provide a central attachment point for the network cabling. ROUTER is a device that operate on the network layer of the OSI open system interconnection which is used to route information from LAN and WAN. SWITCHES intelligent which contains circuitry that very quickly, routes signal between ports on the hub.A communication paradiam in which a dedicated communication path is established between the sender and receiver along which all packets travel.

I've recently been diagnosed with Cancer (Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia) after a regular Eye Test which came as a big shock and very divastating. Im only 29 years old and I thought I had this massive life ahead of me but now its going to be a touch and go. I was meant to go for the second interveiw with a local I.T company but all that has gone out of the window. I've been going through a series of tests and awaiting to undergo chemotherapy which I hope I will respond well to.

I hope I will have less severe side effects to chemotherapy so that I can finish my CCNP and have a long normal life. If you have a chance to read this note, I advise you all to go for regular Blood Tests/Tests so that any irregularities would be diagnosed/picked up early. Sharing this with all of you makes me feel better and wish you all a healthy life. Many thanks to Skills Train for granting me more time to finish my course.

HI, 6 YEARS AGO I WS HOMELESS ON THE STREETS WITH NO HOPE FOR A FUUTURE AND CERTAINLY NEVER DREAMED OF ONE IN IT. AFTER MANAGING TO SORT MYSELF OUT A BIT AND SETTLING DOWN TRYING OUT MANY DIFFERENT COURSES. IT CAME TO LIGHT A FEW YEARS AGO THAT I SEEM TO HAVE A NATUAL ABILTIY FOR PC HARDWARE AND A FAIRLY GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORKING OF PC HARDWARE. I SAW THIS COURSE ADVERTISED ON TELEVISION AND PHONED THEM UP AND THAT'S WHERE IT ALL STARTED.

I AM UNEMPLOYED WITH 2 KIDS AND A 5 MONTH OLD BABY TO LOOK AFTER, I USE MY UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT TO PAY FOR THE COURSE AND WE USE MY PARNTERS MONEY TO LIVE ON AS WE BOTH KNOW THAT AT THE END OF THE DAY WE WILL ALL GAIN IMMENSLY. SOMETIMES IT'S A STRUGGLE TO GET THE TIME OR PEACE TO GET THE STUDY TIME I NEED, BUT I MANAGE IT, AND SINCE I STARTED I DONT THINK I HAVE GOT BELOW 80% MORE THAN ONCE; NOT BAD FROM WHERE I HAVE COME FROM, I HATED SCHOOL AND COULD NOT STUDY, BUT THIS COURSE I LOVE. IT HAS GIVEN ME A NEW LEASE OF LIFE YET AGAIN AND I CAN SEE A FUTURE IN THE WORLD OF IT FOR MYSELF.

THANKS SKILLSTRAIN

I was never a very good listener at school, always found myself distracted, and up until I moved to bristol, not much had changed. I'd been living at home with my mum for 23 years and had sunken into an easy life. I then met my girlfriend on the internet, and after a year of seeing each other at weekends, I moved house. Since then I feel I've really tried to progress my life, not only emotionally, but educationally as well. I've really got into doing my A+ and N+ course and am really enjoying it. Finally I have found something that has held my interest, and will hopefully bring in some decent money to help support my girlfriend and her daughter, who I am living with. My life has had some ups and downs, especially with my father dieing at the young age of 49 from cancer. So now, I feel as though I'm going some way towards bettering myself while he looks down from above. This is a happy moment in my life, and this course is definately helping to achieve my goal.

I am 48 years old and it's a long time since I was at school, so I thought I would do something to keep my brain active, so I joined skills train. It keeps me active and I am learning a new career I would recommend it to anyone. I am on TMA31a and my results average 80-100%; don't be disheartened at the beginning if you find it hard, you just have to persevere and carry on. Taking the course was the best decision I made, I have learnt so much from the course, and if you are stuck on a problem, it really is worth asking for assistance. Good luck to all students!

Despite the pressures of caring for my one year old son and the household chore, I have achieved excellent results in the last 3 months. I have been highly motivated, working hard and received good support from my family and tutors alike. This has proved to be very fruitful and enabled me to make rapid strides in my training with very good marks. This shows that with right determination and efforts I can reach my precious goal. I thank the Skills train team for providing me the platform to rediscover my potential.

I am a returner to skills train UK and I am excited to see where the CIW course will take me this time. Last time I achieved a distinction on my first Skills Train course. At the time I was bashing data into the free ads column of the local newspaper - it was anything but satisfying but life has a way of throwing opportunities in your path if we but recognize them

I just happened to meet the customer services manager of an international electronic online information publisher and told her about my exam success with skills train and the next thing I knew she had offered me a job as an administrator in her amazing team. This was a quantum leap in my career. In a year I was promoted to the Account Management team and --then it happened I got made redundant after four successful years!! This was depressing- for about 100 of us!!!!! And it got worse for some of us!!!
I went to life coaches tried out different jobs, I was struggling financially, I was depressed... It was Nula who persuaded me that I had valuable knowledge that employers could use and that it just needed more skills development that would make use of my creative talents and lead me to a satisfying career. I am averaging in the 9O% range on my assignment so far. It has taken me a while to get going but I am very determined to achieve real career satisfaction this time. I perceive the web as the greatest forum for creative talent that there is and I want to actively be a part of all that either working for myself or for a very creative employer-as you can see I don't want much!!! But it is all about clarifying what I really want to achieve ( and turning in the assignments of course.. -Much luck to everybody in finding a wonderful and satisfying vocation.

I began the course September 3rd 2007. Having discussed time requirements with my advisor and being very ambitious I decided to try to put in 10-12 hours a week and finish the qualification in 18 months. Three weeks in to my course I had to start a new job with erratic shifts at a Hotel in order to make financial ends meet. I found myself only putting in 2 hours one week and then for the past two weeks trying to play catch up, which in the end was not possible. I also work asa Media Lecturer in Higher Education and did 50 hours last week between my two jobs 1st-7th October. Being under pressure with work and not wanting to take 3 years I received 90% for my first assignment and 97% for my second. I have recently submitted my third and am ready to take my fourth leaving me with just two lessons left and I am now confident of completing section 1 part A with a 6 week period which is a tremendous achievement for me.
